Typhen Chan (15 years) Violin - Tchaikovsky Concerto in D Maj. Op. 35
Joan Herget (17 years) Cello - Dvorak Concerto in B min, Op 104
Sua Kwoun (18 years) Cello - Prokofiev Cinfonia Concertante in E min, Op. 125
Sua Kwoun, 18, is a cellist from Calgary. She currently studies with John Kadz and Johanne Perron and is also part of the Advanced Performance Program at Mount Royal University. Some of her most notable accomplishments in the past 3 years include 2nd place in the Canadian Music Competition in 2017 and a national finalist in 2018 and 2016. She also won 3rd place in the Frank Simpson Competition in 2017 and 1st place in 2018 giving her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Calgary Youth Orchestra. In 2018 and 2019, Sua performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra as she was one of the 4 finalists of the CPO Concerto Competition. She was also runner up in last year's C3 competition. Sua plans to further her studies in music performance at a university starting in October of 2019.
Jessica Yuma (15 years) Piano - Tchaikovsky Concerto NO. 1 in Bb min, Op. 23
Jessica Yuma began piano lessons at age 3. She completed the Associateship Performance Diploma (ARCT) and Licentiate Performance Diploma (LRCM) from the Royal Conservatory of Music by the age of 11. She was the first-place winner of the Alberta Provincial Music Festival in the “12 & under” category at the age of 10, the “16 & under” category at the age of 11, and the “Senior” category at 15. At the age of 10, Jessica won the senior category (24 under) of the Northern Alberta Concerto Competition and performed the Mendelssohn Concerto in G- at the Winspear Centre with the Edmonton Senior Youth Orchestra. Jessica has been a top prize winner at the Canadian Music Competition National Finals since she was 7 years old. In 2015, she was invited to perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at the Winspear Center. In the same year, Jessica performed twice in Carnegie Hall, New York. In 2017, Jessica won the Calgary Concerto Competition and performed Liszt’s Concerto No.1 with the Calgary Civic Symphony in Jack Singer Hall. In the summer of 2017, Jessica performed in the Prodigy Recital and also performed one movement of Rachmaninov Concerto no.2 with the Brunesis Virtuosi Orchestra in Perugia, Italy. In 2018, Jessica won a top prize at the International (senior) Piano Competition in Coimbra, Portugal. In June 3, 2018, Jessica performed Beethoven Concerto no.3 with the Edmonton Philharmonic Orchestra. Jessica is currently enrolled in Mount Royal Conservatory of Music Advanced Performance Program for Gifted Young Artist in Calgary. She studies piano with Krzysztof Jablonski. Jessica also plays the cello in Edmonton Youth Orchestra (senior) and enjoys reading, baking, fine art and badminton.
