About us
The Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition is organized and run by a steering committee of volunteers. Reporting to the Orchestra Society of Calgary (Calgary Civic Symphony) they are committed to running a fair competition that encourages growth in these young musicians.
Katherine Sinex,
Competition Director of the Rotary Calgary Concerto Competition
Katherine is a Professional Engineer who is now using her MSc. (Psychology) and Certificates in Conflict Resolution (Mediation & Negotiation) in her encore career as a leadership coach, facilitator, and negotiation advisor. She studied piano, saxophone, and violin intensively in her childhood, then took a 20-year pause after University. She is now a violist in the Calgary Civic Symphony.
John Chik,
Technical Assistant
John has been a longstanding (over 20 years) member of the Calgary Civic Symphony and has volunteered several years in the running of the competition. John will serve as technical assistant ensuring the schedule is developed and communicated.
Natalia Molochnikov, MEMBER
Natalia is a member of ARMTA and is a piano teacher in Calgary.
Barbara Robertson, MEMBER
Barbara is a member of ARMTA and is a piano teacher in Calgary.
Fiona Carnie, MEMBER
Fiona Carnie is the co-founder of the Amici String Program and currently maintains a large teaching studio and performs often locally while organizing and providing vision for the Amici String Program. Ms. Carnie has guided generations of string players to the fulfillment of their individual goals. Her students perform with major orchestras and teach at major institutions across the country. Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from the University of Calgary and a Master of Music from Yale University, where she studied under New York Philharmonic concertmaster, Sidney Harth, and Syoko Aki. In 1996, Ms. Carnie was invited to join the College of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory of Music and she regularly tours Canada as an examiner and festival adjudicator. She recently completed the Rosza Arts Management Program.
Michael Lipnicki, MEMBER
Michael is the owner of Michael Lipnicki Fine Pianos, Calgary's expert in PIANO sales, tuning, conditioning, repairing and appraisals. Michael represents the Calgary Piano Tuner's Guild and has been a supporter of the Calgary Concerto Competition for many years.
